KEEPING GEELONG STRONG – GRANT SUMMARY

Thanks to the generosity of the 46 Geelong-based organisations that support us, Geelong Connected Communities has delivered 13 grants to community organisations in the past month – injecting $17,479 back into our city.

Here is a snapshot of what we have done this month to KEEP GEELONG STRONG!

GRANT SPOTLIGHT – GEELONG SUMMER MUSIC CAMP

A group of teenage musicians enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime experience thanks to a $2,000 ARTS & CULTURE GRANT from GCC.
This event is always a significant moment in the lives of these students, with the Camp’s closing concert at Deakin University’s Costa Hall providing a special performance opportunity they remember forever.
However the 2020 edition was even more memorable, thanks to the presence of global jazz star James Morrison (pictured above), who worked with the musicians aged 10-21 in special workshops and performances.
Morrison travelled to Geelong to act as the Guest Patron for the event as a special surprise to mark the 40th anniversary of this Camp.
Crucially, this event seeks to provide scholarships to musicians from disadvantaged backgrounds or remote locations – thanks to the assistance of our Partners and Supporters.

GRANT SPOTLIGHT – NORTHERN BAY COLLEGE HENDY STREET CAMPUS

This school is providing a safe and supportive environment to ensure students, and their families, can enjoy a nutritious meal to start their day, thanks to a $2,000 Health & Wellbeing Grant made possible by our Partners and Supporters.

GRANT SPOTLIGHT – HOPE BEREAVEMENT CARE

$2,000 Community Safety Grant from GCC will help this organisation provide it’s important ‘Support After Suicide’ Program, which surrounds people affected by suicide with a support group they can reach out to.

This is ‘Carols @ Kardinia’ – a series of Christmas-themed concerts that GCC helped bring to life for thousands of people last month thanks to a $1,000 EVENTS GRANT to Kardinia Community Services.
The support of our Partners and Sponsors also assisted 9 other worthy projects, events and community sponsorships featuring these organisations:
